How to resolve the issue of the wire feeding mechanism's thread in the laser soldering process?

In laser tin soldering, the wire feeding mechanism poses a common problem that can seriously impact the production efficiency and product quality. Matsu Optoelectronics has summarized several solutions:

Check the quality of the tin wire: Ensure that the tin wire  is not bent, twisted, or has surface damage, as these conditions can cause stringing during wire feeding.

Clean the wire feeder: Regularly clean the dirt and dust inside the wire feeder and the guide rail to keep the wire feeder smooth.

Adjust the wire feeding mechanism: Correctly regulate the tension of the wire feeding mechanism and ensure that the wire feeding wheel is appropriately selected and matches the diameter of the welding wire.

Lubricate key components: Appropriate lubrication of the key components in the wire feeding mechanism can reduce friction and thereby prevent stringing.

Check the drive system: Ensure that the motor speed of the wire feeding mechanism is stable and there is no damage. If there is a problem with the motor, it needs to be replaced.

Regular maintenance and technical support: Periodically maintain and inspect the device and contact technical support for professional guidance.

Solve the issue of excessively fast or too close wire feed speed: If the wire feed speed is too fast or the tin needle is too close to the welding head, it may result in the solder wire being unable to melt due to insufficient time and heat, easily causing jamming.

The above measures can effectively address the problem of wire jamming in the wire feeding mechanism during laser tin soldering, thereby ensuring production efficiency and product quality.

Several reasons for wire feeding mechanism jamming in laser tin soldering:

Improper orientation of the tin wire: If the tin wire is not positioned correctly during wire feeding, it may lead to wire jamming. This is typically due to adjusting the tin wire guide position or adjusting the fixed position of the tin feed tube.

Excessive wire feed pressure: The appropriate wire feed pressure is crucial to prevent the tin wire from slipping or flattening. If the pressure is too high, it may cause problems during wire feeding.

Tin wire quality issues: If the tin wire used is bent, twisted, or damaged, it may also lead to stringing.

Mechanical actuator malfunction: If there is a fault in the mechanical actuator (such as the wire feeding mechanism), such as wear, aging of accessories, etc., these may result in the phenomenon of wire jamming.

Bus communication part failure: If the bus communication part (such as the display part of the device) is faulty, it may also lead to the phenomenon of stringing.

Solutions to these problems include, but are not limited to:

Adjust the guiding position of the tin wire: Ensure that the tin wire is operating in the correct guiding position.

Adjust the wire feed pressure: Ensure that the wire feed pressure is moderate to avoid slipping or flattening caused by excessive pressure.

Analyze and take preventive measures: Enhance production efficiency and product quality by analyzing the cause of the failure and implementing corresponding solutions.

The specific reasons for the wire feeding mechanism in laser tin soldering may involve the failure of the guiding position of the tin wire, the wire feed pressure, the quality of the tin wire, and the related mechanical actuator and the bus communication part.

Choose the Right Length of Wire Feed Tube: Since longer wire feed tubes increase resistance, it is advisable to opt for a shorter tube. For example, a 3m wire feed tube is suitable for 0.8mm welding wire to minimize resistance and improve feeding efficiency.

Inspect the Wire Feed Mechanism: Regular checks of the wire feed mechanism components are essential to ensure they are functioning properly. This includes verifying that the wire feed torque is normal and assessing other factors that could impact performance.

Adjust Wire Feed Speed: After initiating the wire feed mechanism, monitor the wire feed speed for consistency and make adjustments as necessary to maintain stability and efficiency during welding.

Consider Hose Length: In push-type wire feeding systems, longer hoses can compromise feeding stability, so it's important to select hose lengths that suit various welding requirements and conditions.

Additionally, Songsheng Optoelectronics has introduced the third generation of its laser constant temperature tin soldering system, which features a 976 direct semiconductor laser, an infrared online thermometer, a constant temperature single focus welding head, an automatic wire feeding and guiding mechanism, a single focus circular lighting source, and specialized software for constant temperature laser tin soldering. This system allows for pre-setting multiple temperature intervals in the welding software. Its closed-loop temperature control system monitors the welding spot temperature in real time and automatically adjusts the laser power to prevent overheating when the set temperature limit is reached.

If issues persist after implementing these solutions, it is advisable to reach out to the equipment supplier or qualified maintenance personnel for further diagnosis and repair to prevent more serious damage to the equipment.
