Principle of laser tin wire welding

                         

       Laser tin wire welding is a technique that uses a laser as a heat source for welding. The basic principle is to generate a highly concentrated beam of light through a laser, converting light energy into heat energy, thereby melting the solder and achieving welding. The specific process is as follows:

  1. Preheating: In the preheating stage, the laser light is emitted, and the laser beam is focused on the metal welding pad to be welded, and the welding spot is heated by laser radiation to the welding pad position.

 

  2. Tin wire feeding: While the pad is preheating, the tin wire feeding equipment will be sent to the pad position.

 

  3. Melting solder: When the temperature of the pad is high enough, the laser continues to irradiate, so that the tin wire is rapidly melted, and flows into the tiny gap between the pad and the welded part.

 

  4. Forming solder joints: the tin wire is withdrawn from the solder joints, the laser gradually weakens to stop, and the solder joints are formed and cooled.

     The precise implementation of the three steps of material preheating, wire feeding melting and wire drawing away is the key point to determine whether the laser wire feeding welding is perfect.

 

      For example, when preheating PCB pads, the temperature must be strictly controlled, the high temperature will cause damage to the PCB pads and existing electronic components, and the low temperature can not play a preheating effect. The wire feed and wire release speed should be fast, the wire feed speed is slow, which will cause the phenomenon of laser burning PCB, and the wire release speed is slow, which will cause excess welding wire blocking the wire feed nozzle.
